Why Moxidectin is Preferred as a Wormer to Ivermectin

Moxidectin and Ivermectin are both anti-parasitic drugs commonly used to deworm chickens, pigeons, parrots, and other livestock.

Here are some factors to consider when comparing Moxidectin and Ivermectin for deworming chickens, pigeons, and birds.

Spectrum of activity: Both drugs have a broad spectrum of activity against various internal and external parasites in chickens. The chicken vets believe that Moxidectin may be safer than Ivomectin.

Residue and withdrawal periods: Both Moxidectin and Ivermectin are known to have short half-lives in chickens pigeons and birds, which is the time between the last administration of the drug and when the eggs from treated birds can be safely consumed.

Parasite resistance to antiparasitic drugs is a widespread issue in livestock production. Some studies suggest that Moxidectin might have a lower risk of developing resistance compared to Ivomectin, making it a preferred choice For bird Veterinarians.

Veterinary guidance: The choice between Moxidectin and Ivermectin, as well as the dosage and treatment regimen, should always be made under the guidance of a veterinarian. At Bird Vet Melbourne, we prefer Moxidectin to Ivermectin.
